ROYSTON DRENTHE was dropped from Everton’s squad for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat by Liverpool for disciplinary reasons.
The 25-year-old on-loan midfielder had only just returned to action in time for the club’s previous game, a 4-0 win against Sunderland last weekend, after previously being given a leave of absence on compassionate grounds.
However Drenthe, who has been disciplined previously by David Moyes, risked his manager’s wrath again last week as the Blues prepared for Wembley, and paid with his place in the squad.
“Drenthe has been the subject of a disciplinary matter,” said the club.
“This has been dealt with internally. The club will make no further comment.”
The ECHO understands the former Real Madrid winger, who has scored four goals and seven assists since his August 2011 move, is unlikely to remain at the club beyond this summer.
And this latest incident could mean Moyes will not select him for any of the club’s remaining five fixtures.
