JOSEPH YOBO is convinced his future will be resolved “soon” – despite Everton preparing to recall the 31-year-old defender from Turkey for pre-season training at Finch Farm.
The Nigerian has been on-loan to Fenerbahce for the past two seasons, after negotiations over a permanent deal broke down last summer, and with the Turks refusing to meet Everton’s asking price once again the Blues are prepared to call Fenerbahce’s bluff and order the player to report to Finch Farm next month.
Fenerbahce have qualified for next season’s Champions League and Yobo is clearly enjoying life in the Turkish capital.
“My career has always been on the rise,” he said in Lagos yesterday where he is on international duty. “I’ve been on loan to Fener where I won the Cup. Fener are a big club with big ambition and I’m happy to have played for them. My future will be settled soon.”
While Everton are dissatisified with Fenerbahce’s offer of £1m for a player who still has two years of his Everton contract to run, Yobo is on a lucrative contract which Everton can ill-afford to embrace once again, especially as the Nigerian would be behind Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin and Johnny Heitinga in the first team pecking order.
Everton and Fenerbahce are likely to come to a compromise over a valuation for Yobo, David Moyes’ first signing in 2002, with a fee of £2m likely to secure Yobo’s permanent transfer.
An Everton XI, meanwhile, will take on Hereford United at Edgar Street on Saturday, July 28 (3pm kick off) as part of their pre-season schedule.
The new Everton away kit will go on sale this Saturday when the refurbished Everton Two store reopens.
A special day of activities hosted by Radio City DJ Simon Ross gets underway at Everton Two, Liverpool One, from 10.30am, when Rossie will countdown to the official re-opening at 11am.
An Everton legend will also be on hand – including the opportunity to win two 2012/13 Season Tickets.
