Southampton starlet Calum Chambers is looking forward to leading out England Under 19s at the Swansway Chester Stadium on Wednesday evening (7pm).

Chester FC hosts international football with the Young Lions taking on Turkey and Chambers, who turned 19 in January, will captain Noel Blake's side.

He has made 15 appearances in the Premier League this season and is the latest in a growing line of talented teenagers to come through the Saints academy.

Chambers and his England team-mates face Turkey as part of their preparation for the Elite Round of the UEFA U19 European Championship qualifying section.

He said: "It’s a dream come true to wear the captain’s armband playing for England.

"It’s an honour for me and I enjoy and look forward to every game I’m involved in with my country."

England and Turkey met 12 months ago at Telford with Chambers scoring the winner on that occasion and he predicts another tough encounter.

He said: "It was a good game, a tight game and they were very competitive. But if we play well and show what we’re capable of then we’ll be hoping to get a win.

"They have some very good players. I remember last year they had two very good wingers who were very good on the ball."

Chambers is one of four Southampton players in the squad with his flat mate Harrison Reed among the quartet.

"Harrison is a midfield player, he’s really good on the ball and he’s been doing really well this season," said Chambers.

Club mates Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse have all won international recognition and Chambers credits the environment at Saints with helping young players reach their potential.

He said: "From a young age you see players a year or two older going through to the first team and now England, and that gives you that inspiration and belief that you can do it."

Admission for the game costs £3 for adults, £1 for children and OAPs with a tickets available from the club up until kick off or until all sold.
