WILLASTON remain perilously close to the relegation zone after a thumping 8-2 defeat at Mond Rangers on Saturday.

The Second Division side are now placed 14th with just 11 points from their opening 12 games.

However, the town's First Division teams put on a fine display with the pick of the bunch being Ellesmere Port's 4-3 victory at home to Mallaby in an exciting encounter.

Castrol Social held on for a 1-1 draw at home to Christleton but the former remain just one place above bottom club Helsby who lost at home to Vauxhall Motors Res 3-1.

In the Third Division, struggling Grange Athletic came out impressive winners against mid-table Bronze Social, while fellow strugglers Ellesmere Port Res continued their poor form after losing by a single goal against Manor Athletic Res.

Capenhurst Villa Res obtained a much-needed point at Upton AA Res.

In the West Cheshire Bowl quarter-finals, Capenhurst Villa defeated Blacon Youth Club 3-2 in a pulsating encounter which went into extra time.
