HOOLE Rangers stayed on course for a league and cup double by beating Newton Athletic Youth 6-1 in the second round of the Chester FA Challenge Cup.

Craig Rowlands grabbed a hat-trick for the Premier Division leaders with Joe Jordan, Ray Prior and Paul Roberts completing their scoresheet. James Andrews replied for the visitors.

Chester Nomads Seconds also kept their double hopes alive with a 4-2 home win over Bank of Scotland, but they needed extra time after leading 2-0 at one stage. Ken Scholes scored a hat-trick and Mike Appolonio was also on target.

John Munnerley's goal wasn't enough to prevent Barrow losing 2-1 at home to Kelsall, while second-half strikes from Paul Bennion and Andrew McGregor put Waggon and Horses through at the expense of hosts Upton Borough.

Mike Jones and Peter O'Toole were on the mark for Brewery Arms in a 3-2 home defeat by Christleton Reserves, and Daz Richards (2), Aaron Brown, Rob Edge and Sean Jackson sealed Tarporley Vics' 5-1 home win over Upton VC.

In the Premier Division, Blacon YC Reserves trounced Frodsham United (Dean Jago) 5-1 with goals by Mike Price (2), Paul Haselden, Chris Larsen and Danny Goodwin.

Division One leaders Christleton A slumped to a shock 4-2 defeat at Dud -don, who had Sam Keefe (3) and Richard Moss to thank for their goals.

Frodsham United Reserves beat Chester Nomads Thirds (Mickey Bowell) 2-1 with strikes by Les Brownbill and Russ Fisher, and Jim Dolan, Ian Savage and Alan Holmes earned Kydds Athletic the points in a 3-2 victory against Barrow Seconds.

MBNA Reserves came from behind to beat Team Highfield (Gary Ellams 2, Simon Davies) by the odd goal in seven, thanks to Richard McKevitt (2), Kevin Pickering and Steve Higgins.
