DIRK KUYT believes the hectic festive schedule gives Liverpool the ideal opportunity to climb the Premier League table.

The Dutchman was left frustrated when Saturday's clash with Fulham at Anfield was postponed but he's already focusing on Boxing Day's showdown at Blackpool.

That is the first of four games in 10 days for Roy Hodgson's ninth-placed side with home matches against Wolves and Bolton followed by a trip to Blackburn on January 5.

Kuyt knows a maximum 12-point haul and the table will look considerably better.

“This period is one of the most important of the season,” Kuyt said.

“If we can produce a good run I'm sure we will be up near the top four.

“I’m sure a lot of the top teams will drop some points this month. If we could get four good results in a row, then who knows? Certainly the gap will be closer.”

The Christmas schedule places great demands on players but Kuyt isn't complaining. Having already suffered two lengthy absences this season due to shoulder and ankle injuries, he's relishing the prospect of so much action.

“December is always a special month in the Premier League and one I always look forward to,” he said.

“It's hard work with four games in 10 days but that's what you want. I love to play games and always want to play as many as I can.

“Hopefully at the beginning of the new year we can look back and say it was a great time for us and we climbed the table.”

The game against Hodgson's former club Fulham was postponed early on Saturday morning after a meeting between Liverpool officials and the police.

Just two of the weekend's Premier League matches survived due to the adverse weather conditions.

A Liverpool spokesman said: “The safety of all fans attending the game was paramount and although the Anfield pitch was playable, the conditions around the stadium and further afield for people travelling to the match were such that the decision was taken, following police advice on safety grounds, to postpone the game.

“All existing tickets will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. We will also offer refunds and publish a deadline date for refunds once the rearranged game date is announced to enable us to re-sell any returned seats to other supporters.

“We will advise all supporters of the new date as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, Liverpool insist contrary to weekend reports Milan Jovanovic has not been put on the transfer list. The Serbian has struggled since signing for the Reds on a free transfer from Standard Liege last summer and has been linked with a move in January. However, Jovanovic recently told the ECHO he wanted to stay and fight for his place.
