NANTWICH Town booked their place in the last 32 of the FA Vase by hitting Coalville Town for six at Jackson Avenue on Saturday.

The in-form Dabbers saw off their Midland Alliance opponents with three goals in either half to earn Nigel Gleghorn's men a home date with Wroxham on Saturday, January 17.

The draw is Nantwich's fifth successive home tie in the competition this term, with previous wins against Kimberley (2-1), Tipton Town (1-0), Grosvenor Park (5-1) and Coalville.

Norfolk side Wroxham are sixth in the Eastern Counties League. Player-manager Gleghorn is happy with another home draw.

He said: 'We've had a good run of home draws but you can only take what comes your way, and we're looking forward to the tie.'

Saturday's success was all the sweeter for the fact it was achieved without top scorer Wes Wilkinson.

Gleghorn opened the scoring from a 17th-minute free-kick and, after a Ross Scott own goal, the player-manager added his second of the game in the 24th minute.

Second-half strikes from Dale Melling, Danny Griggs and Mark Gardiner settled the contest as the Dabbers dominated after the break.

Gleghorn said: 'We rode our luck a bit in the first 10 minutes but while 3-0 flattered us at half-time, I don't think 6-0 did in the end.

'We've been playing well in the last two months and have only lost two of our last 12. As Mark Gardiner said after the game, we've lost to worse sides than Coalville this season.'

Gleghorn was also pleased to get on the scoresheet and believes the signing of Steve Davis has been important in enabling him to find the net.

'I've always been a goalscorer throughout my career and since Steve came, he has taken charge of the back line and allowed me to get forward more.

'I said to the lads beforehand that with Wes out we'd need to share the goalscoring between us, and that's what happened.'

The victory also earned the Dabbers a handy £1,2000 cash bonus.

Gleghorn said: 'That will pay the wages for two weeks and it's nice that money doesn't have to come out of the club.

'I've said all along that there's no reason why we can't make good progress in the FA Vase. I think I have a very good team capable of beating anybody on their day, and sometimes the hard part is getting them to believe it.'

AFC Wimbledon have been installed as the bookmakers' favourites to win the Vase and Gleghorn said: 'We're not counting our chickens, but it would be nice to meet them in the final at Upton Park!'

Nantwich now have a break until Boxing Day and Gleghorn has mixed feelings about the lay-off.

'There are two ways of looking at it. We're playing well and you always want matches when you're in good form. But I think this break might help us because we might be able to get one or two players such as Wes Wilkinson and Steven Jardine fit .' Nantwich Reserves' Mid Cheshire League President's Cup second-round tie at Pilkingtons Reserves on Saturday was postponed.
