CHESTER CITY manger Keith Curle described his club's pairing with Coca-Cola Championship side Wolves in the first round of the Carling Cup as "fantastic".

Curle spent four seasons at Molineux between 1996 and 2000 making nearly 200 first-team appearances for the Staffordshire club.

He said: "It's a great draw for us, not just for the play-ers, but also for our supporters. Molineux is a ground of Premiership standard, and I am sure that the club will be pushing for a place in the top division next season.

"I have happy memories of my time there, and it will be great to take my Chester side down there. There is always a fabulous atmosphere and their supporters really get behind their team, which should make it all a great occasion."

He added: "Lee Naylor and Jo Lescott were beginning to make their mark at the club when I was captain there, and it's good to see them nowadays being an integral part of the first team. I hope Wolves and ourselves have good starts to the season, and the game is bound to be a great spectacle."

City striker Michael Branch also had a spell with Wolves and Curle is convinced the player will be fired up. He said: "Branchy is a quality goalscorer and I know that he will be keen to make a point.

"It should be a great day out, and of course it provides the club with an opportunity to earn some money, which is extremely important."

The tie is likely to be played on Tuesday, August 23 with a 7.45pm kick-off, confirmation of the match date is expected this evening.

Meanwhile tomorrow is the last day when Chester supporters can take advantage of the reduced season ticket offers. New and existing season ticket purchasers have until 5pm tomorrow to buy tickets from the club's offices at 'early bird' rates..
