SAUGHALL became the latest victims of in-form Ellesmere Port in Cheshire Alliance Division Two on Saturday.

The Chester visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a pitch which had been softened by the previous day’s torrential rain.

Inevitably, wickets tumbled and only Martin Huxley (32) showed any kind of resistance as Saughall slumped to 57ao – their second lowest score in the Cheshire Alliance.

Ellesmere Port were impressive with the ball, Dwayne Bernard taking 4-16 and Fahad Khan 4-21.

Saughall still fancied their chances of defending 57 – not just due to the bowler-friendly surface, but because of an outfield that prevented any boundaries along the ground.

But it was not to be as four catches were spilled while some marginal lbw decisions went in Port’s favour as the hosts reached 58-6 (Dipak Jena 4-27).

In Division One, FRODSHAM won at Wilmslow in a battle between two teams at the wrong end of the table.

Wilmslow scored 137 with Richard Warburton taking a hat-trick in his 4-19. Frodsham then scored 138-4 Roger London 71no).

CAPENHURST drew at Groves 2nds in Division Three, scoring 114-8 before Groves made 91-9.
