FOUR Winsford ASC swimmers represented Cheshire at the Inter-Counties Championships at Sheffield on Sunday.

Lucie Tetley returned the best result, coming fifth in the 16/17s 100m breast-stroke. She was also 16th in the 100m freestyle.

Nigel Davies was 20th on his county debut in the 100m breaststroke; Abbi Henderson was 15th in the same event for under 13s and James Cowburn was ninth in the 14/15s backstroke.

All four represented the county in relay races. Cheshire were 13th and maintained their First Division status. Lancashire won the championships.

Meanwhile, 19 Winsford swimmers contested an open gala at Holywell and returned with a haul of 21 gold medals, five silver and five bronze and 44 new personal best times, all from 60 races.

Star performer was Charlotte Baker who took four golds - open freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley, and was unlucky not to make it a full house when she was disqualified in her backstroke swim.

Also in good form were Emma Almond, two golds and a silver and Lydia Woodward, who won the breaststrokes and backstrokes in the 13 years category and set a club record in the individual medley.

Other Winsford medallists were: Jessica Gallimore Katherine Edgar, Ellie Ebbitt, Eleanor Captsick, Brendan Ion, Michael Almond and Jack Millington.
