THE Blues are awaiting a response from Chester City Council over their ambitious proposal to see the Saunders Honda Stadium turned into a community sports village.

Club director Paul Baker made a presentation to the city council last week and the relevant officers and councillors are now studying the football club's plans.

Baker told the Blues' official website: 'Our proposal was well received and I would like to thank Chester City Council for giving us this opportunity.'

The Blues say they will hand ownership of the club's Bumpers Lane ground over to the council for free if, in return, they redevelop the site so it can be used for more than just football.

The football club's dream is to see the land turned into a focal point to house other sporting facilities, corporate hospitality/office suites, function rooms, a crèche, a cafe/bistro and further bar facilities.

Blues chairman Stephen Vaughan wants an arrangement like the one Widnes Vikings have with Halton Borough Council, who own and maintain the rugby league outfit's 14,000-capacity Halton Stadium home.

Vaughan is on the Vikings' board of directors.
