VAUXHALL MOTORS' hopes of recording a third successive pre-season victory were dashed by a combination of poor finishing and Bay's well-organised defence at Llanelian Road on Saturday.

The visitors began brightly enough, with Moogan and Furlong testing the Bay keeper while O'Donnell headed into the net only to be ruled offside, but then former Vauxhall striker Wright

twice went close at the other end, striking one shot against the foot of the post then squandering a great chance shortly after by dragging his shot wide of the target with only Lake to beat.

On the resumption, Motors continued to create chances but efforts from O'Donnell, Whittaker and Furlong all went over the bar.

But the match ended in controversial circumstances when five minutes from time, in a bizarre off-the-ball incident, Motors defender Williams was red-carded for

the first time in his career for apparently head-butting his own team-mate midfielder Field.

Motors' next scheduled match was away to Bangor City tomorrow, but that game has been cancelled and replaced with one at home to Merseyside Police.
