BEN DAVIES bagged a brace, including a late winner, to give Chester a hard-earned victory in last night's entertaining friendly.

Davies struck after seven minutes with a glancing header from Ian Foster's right-wing cross but Nomads competed well and went close when Tommy Mutton's drive was cleared off the line by Wayne Hatswell.

The Welsh Premier League side deservedly drew level in the 51st minute when Andy Griffith's corner was met by a brilliant diving header from central defender George Horan.

Chester enjoyed a lot of possession but Nomads defended solidly and nearly went ahead in the second half through the lively Mutton and Paul Mazzarella, who fired narrowly wide of the post.

But after Cameron and Beesley had gone close for Chester they grabbed the winner in the 88th minute when Davies sent a bullet header beyond the reach of keeper David Walsh from Cameron's cross.
