CHESTER CITY'S directors last night convened a management meeting to ensure that all the criteria required for membership of the Football League were in place if the club gain promotion from the Nationwide Conference this season.

City lead the Conference by five points from Hereford and have eight games remaining, while the Bulls have played a game more.

"We are not tempting fate, nor are we counting our chickens before they hatch," said City chairman Stephen Vaughan last night.

"All clubs who are in contention for promotion have to provide details to the League of ground capacity, financial stability, and also prove their financial ability to meet their commitments, if and when they are promoted.

"We have a clean bill of health thankfully in all directions these days. It has taken a lot of hard work, and of course a lot of money, but at least everything off the field that the Football League require from us has now been achieved," enthused Vaughan.

Chester's pulling power has again caught the eye of the producers of the small screen.

City's home match against Exeter City on Easter Saturday, April 10 has been selected by Sky Television for live coverage. The game will now kick off at 5.30pm.

Former City striker Steve Brodie, who was released by the club on Monday, is poised to join UniBond League outfit Droylsden.

The player, who is taking his football coaching badge in Liverpool, has had talks with the Manchester club and is expected to sign for them tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the long-running saga between the Nationwide Conference and Exeter City has been resolved.

The agreement means that all member clubs, including Chester City and Northwich Victoria will not have to pay legal fees, which could have reached around £25,000 per club.
