A SPIRITED second-half showing failed to prevent the Wing-makers from falling to their fifth Welsh Premier League defeat in a row on Boxing Day.

Trailing at the break to goals from Timmy Edwards and Mike Heverin, Gareth Owen's men gave it as good as they got following the restart.

They showed signs of a revival after conceding their second, with play-er-boss Owen firing just wide and Ryan Maloney hitting the post.

They were back in it in the 51st minute when Owen slotted in a penalty after Edwards fouled him in the box.

However, Druids restored their two-goal advantage 10 minutes later when Osian Jones flighted in a free kick.

The Wingmakers piled forward and forced home keeper Carl Edwards into some fine saves, while Darren Williams volleyed over.

Their final chance came seven minutes from time when Maloney was brought down in the area. But this time Owen could only hit his spot-kick on to the bar.

Tonight, Airbus make the trip to champions TNS (7.30), before welcoming Druids to the Airfield on New Year's Day (2.30pm).

Vauxhall Motors 2 Droylsden 3

TEN-man Vauxhall looked like holding Conference North leaders Droylsden to a hard-earned draw on Boxing Day until Steve Daly struck three minutes into injury time.

It was harsh on the Motormen, who twice grabbed the lead, but

ended up defending their slim advantage for the last 40 minutes without keeper Sean Lake, who was dismissed for a second booking early in the second half.

Vauxhall took the lead on 26 minutes when Stuart Whittaker's cross went in off the head of Droylsden defender Craig Robinson, a former Motors player.

The Bloods drew level when Lake clipped the heels of Terry Fearns in the area on 40 minutes and the former Motors striker converted the resultant spot kick.

But Vauxhall regained the lead three minutes into the second half, John Lawless cutting inside from the right and firing home a deflected shot.

Six minutes later Lake picked up his second yellow of the game for bringing down Daly, reducing the hosts to 10 men.

Droylsden made it 2-2 with 14 minutes left, Lawless deflecting Jimmy Kelly's shot into the net.

Just when it seemed as if the Motormen had earned a point, Daly struck a close range winner.

Vauxhall host Hyde United tomorrow and make the return trip to Droylsden on New Year's Day (both 3pm).
