CHESTER City are hoping to unveil up to three new players by the end of the week.

And boss Keith Curle has his fingers crossed that one of them will be Mansfield centre-back David Artell.

Chester have already had two bids for the player rejected by the Midlands club, and have now made a third.

Curle said last night: " We have made an improved offer and hope-fully this time it will be successful."

Meanwhile, Chester's club secretary Tony Allen is to play a key role in overhauling the wage-capping system which is currently being tested by League Two clubs.

He is to join a working party of the Coca Cola League management panel to carry out the project.

The working party, which also includes representatives from Barnet, Macclesfield and Wycombe Wanderers, will meet a number of times over the next few months, and then issue a report which will act as a blueprint for a wage-capping system that will be utilised throughout the Football League.

Mr Allen, who is also a director of the club, said: "It's a great honour for both myself and the club to be invited onto this committee.

"It's a balanced working party, which includes people who are for and against the initiative so it should lead to some interesting debate."

Tomorrow, Chester will find out their fixtures for the forthcoming season.

On the list will be games against traditional rivals Wrexham, as well as Stockport County, after both clubs were relegated from League One.
