Keeper is honoured

A YOUNG Chester FC goalkeeper who has stayed loyal to his hometown club has been selected for a national squad.

Otis Chamberlain, 15, from Frodsham, who has played for renowned academies such as Liverpool and Everton, signed a contract with the Blues’ new Under 16s team last Friday after earning a place in the Independent Schools FA U16s set-up.

Chester U16s coach Gareth Richards said: “I used to be the Chester Schoolboys U14s coach and it was obvious even then he was an outstanding keeper.”

Richards also praised the Abbey Gate College pupil’s commitment to Chester.

“Instead of going to a bigger club, where everything was unknown, he knows the set-up here and is going to be training with Grenville Millington,” said Richards.

“He is a top lad to have around, pretty shy off the pitch but really lively when on it – he becomes a different animal. He is very likeable and we are really fortunate to have him in the team, especially now.”

Abbey Gate College deputy headteacher Gavin Allmand said: “This is a tremendous achievement.

“Otis has developed a prodigious kick which has resulted in him clearing the opposition bar three times and hitting the bar on one occasion.”
