CHESTER University is looking at ways it could link up with City Fans United and Chester FC – including sharing facilities and offering education to players at the fan-owed club.

Charlie Woodcock, director of business development at the University of Chester, said: “It is in the city’s best interests to support its league football side and there are significant educational and social contributions that the university could make to help achieve that goal.

“Realistic possibilities could include providing part-time sports foundation degree courses for its players and free training facilities.”

The university has been quick off the mark to praise CFU’s plans and a partnership between the two could help give the supporters’ group stability as their reformed Chester FC grows.

“We look forward to exploring the potential of a collaboration with City Fans United in the near future,” said Mr Woodcock.
