There are strong connections between Chester FC and tonight's pre-season opponents Airbus UK Broughton .

The list of players to have represented both clubs is a long one but the Wingmakers squad for this evening's game features three former Blues held in high esteem at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium.

Between them, Ashley Williams, Matty McGinn and Tony Gray won no fewer than six league titles with Chester-born Williams accounting for half of that total.

The trio each made significant contributions to the fan-owned club's spectacular climb through the leagues and back into the top tier of non-league football in three seasons of unrivalled success.

The club has had to evolve in recent seasons to cope with the challenges of the National League but while players come and go, fans will always remember their contributions and Williams, McGinn and Gray can be assured of the warmest of receptions this evening.

Here The Chronicle looks back at their time with the Blues:

Ashley Williams

Chester-born midfielder Williams spent three years with his hometown club having signed for Airbus in January 2011.

He became a fans' favourite for his whole-hearted displays in the engine room and helped make history as the Blues won three successive league titles.

The former Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School pupil was a mainstay of the team that topped the Evo-Stik Division One North , Evo-Stik Premier Division and Conference North.

In total he made 85 appearances for Chester but requested a move midway through the 2013/14 season after finding first-team opportunities limited following the club's return to the Conference Premier. He did feature in the memorable 2-0 win against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground although was shown a red card for pushing Bradley Reid in the face.

Williams returned to Airbus in January 2014 and has made a further 71 appearances for the Wingmakers since then.

Matty McGinn

An electrician who gave the Blues a real spark down the left-hand side, McGinn scored 22 goals in 84 appearances in two outstanding seasons.

First signed on loan from Southport at the beginning of the 2010/11 campaign, the free-kick specialist was a revelation with six goals in seven games and it was no surprise when he made a permanent switch from Haig Avenue.

McGinn was integral to Neil Young's team winning the Evo-Stik Premier Division and Conference North titles, and for Blues fans his stunning championship-winning strike against Northwich Victoria is one of the most memorable moments since the club's rebirth.

Unable to commit to the travel demands of the Conference Premier, McGinn departed for AFC Telford United at the end of the 2012/13 season, where he celebrated another Conference North title.

McGinn moved to Airbus in June 2014 and has netted 13 goals in 69 games in his two seasons with the Wingmakers.

Tony Gray

Neil Young paid a four-figure fee to bring Gray to Chester from Southport, where he averaged almost a goal every two games, in September 2012 to spearhead the club's bid for promotion from the Conference North.

But the move was not initially a success with Gray struggling for goals and finding himself out of favour until he was recalled and grasped his chance with both hands.

Gray hit form and found his scoring touch as the Blues romped to the title, netting a hat-trick in a 5-1 victory at Colwyn Bay and the winner in the Cheshire Senior Cup final.

However, like McGinn work commitments forced him to request a transfer in summer 2013 and he moved to AFC Telford United for a nominal fee having scored 14 goals from 19 starts in a 33-game spell with Chester.

Gray left Telford in May 2015 to sign for Airbus and notched 24 goals in 41 appearances during his first season with the Broughton-based club.
