CHESTER FC have made Pat Cluskey and the role of chief executive redundant.

Cluskey was appointed as Chester’s general manager in August 2010 and was promoted to the position of chief executive one year later.

But following a review of the board’s management structure, he has left the supporter-owned club.

A statement released to The Chronicle by Blues chairman Tony Durkin read: “Following the recent review by the board of the club’s management structure, which has identified the need for a reorganisation of the club’s management structure, the position of chief executive officer has been made redundant and as a result Pat Cluskey has left the company.

“The board would like to thank Pat for his efforts during his two-and-a-half-years at the club and wish him good luck for the future.”

Cluskey was unable to make a comment as the matter is currently in the hands of his solicitor.

The review of the board’s management structure began after Durkin took over as Chester’s chairman in November.

After a ‘whirlwind’ 60 days in the role, Durkin revealed in January that the club was heading for a loss of ‘between £65,000 and £75,000’ for the financial year and that most of its cash reserves would be ‘used up’.

But after announcing Cluskey’s departure last night, Durkin said: “I can’t give you any figures but I can give you an analogy. It’s like a supertanker, when you try to turn it around, it takes a long time.

“But we believe we’ve turned it around. We’ve got things under control and the management accounts we produce now are far more detailed than they ever were before.

“So we can analyse and spot things more quickly if things are going wrong against forecast.

“I believe that we will post a better figure than the one projected in January.”

While there will not be a like-for-like replacement for Cluskey, The Chronicle understands the club will be making a management appointment.

On the field, champions Chester complete their Blue Square Bet North season with an all-ticket clash at Worcester City today (3pm).

Prolific youth team striker Tom Peers, 17, will make his full debut.
