CHESTER FC supporters will have to wait a little longer before Neil Young reveals his squad plans for next season.

The double title-winning Blues boss will not release the list of players he wishes to retain until after the club’s awards bash at Chester Racecourse on Saturday week.

Young is also in no rush to enter the transfer market.

He said: “There won’t be any decisions on players until after May 19. Only once we’ve had the presentation will we put out a retained list.

“We also won’t be making any rash decisions over the bringing in of players. We’ll be taking our time to make sure we get the right ones.

“Likewise we won’t be held to ransom on wages. We believe we pay a very competitive wage and we’ll continue to do that.”

While Young is prepared to play a waiting game, he has drawn up a list of ‘one or two’ targets he could yet make an early play for.

One area he may reinforce is up front after Matty McNeil – the City Fans United player of the season – was ruled out for up to a year with a serious knee injury.

One striker who has been linked with Chester is Marine’s Neil Harvey. Young, however, has not made an approach for the Barbados international.

Ben Davies is the latest player to sign up for Sunday’s special benefit match at the Exacta Stadium.

The Derby County star will line up for the Chester City XI which will take on the current Chester FC team in a game staged in memory of young Blues fan Ciaran Geddes.

The select XI will be mainly made up of players from the Chester side which won the Conference in 2004.

Joining Davies in the team will be Kevin McIntyre, Phil Bolland, Carl Ruffer, Michael Twiss, Jamie Heard, Daryl Clare, Jimmy Kelly, Sean Hessey, Billy Stewart, Eddie Bishop, Chris Lightfoot, Jimmy Haarhoff and Nigel Edwards.

Managed by Paul Carden and Wayne Brown, the City side will also feature guest appearances from comedians John Bishop – brother of Eddie – and Jason Manford.

All proceeds from the game will go the British Heart Foundation. Kick-off is 1pm.

Chester FC have arranged a pre-season friendly at Airbus UK Broughton for Tuesday, July 31.

The 2012-13 Blue Square North campaign will get under way on Saturday, August 18.
