NEW boy Marc Williams has vowed to do all he can to show Chester FC fans the sort of form that made him a striking sensation at rivals Wrexham.

Injuries have hampered the forward’s progress since his breakthrough season at the Racecourse but he is now fit and determined to play a leading part in the Blues’ bid for glory.

Chester manager Young moved quickly to snap up Williams, 23, following his release from Blue Square Premier outfit Kidderminster Harriers.

The former Wales Under 21 international has signed a deal until the end of the season but he has not ruled out extending his stay with the Blues.

Williams, who joined Kidderminster in the summer after his 12-year stay at Wrexham ended, said: “I want to get back to where I was three years ago. So maybe taking this step back, down the leagues, in the long term might actually help me.

“At this point of my career this might be exactly what I need. Hopefully I can hit the ground running and I’ll score some goals to help the club win promotion. Then you never know what will happen next year.”

Williams, a hardworking and intelligent striker, came up through the Wrexham youth ranks and became a firm Dragons fans’ favourite in the 2008-09 campaign.

Playing alongside targetman Jefferson Louis, Williams scored 15 goals in 27 games before his season was ended by a broken foot.

His Wrexham career never truly recovered and he left for Kidderminster in May of last year.

The move did not work out but he was not short of offers once his Aggborough exit was announced last week.

Excited by the prospect of playing in front of bumper Exacta Stadium crowds, Williams had no issue in casting aside his former allegiances to become the fourth ex-Wrexham player – after Wes Baynes, Christian Smith and Levi Mackin – in Chester’s squad.

Williams, who is also friends with Blues midfielder Ashley Williams, said: “I know how big the rivalry between Chester and Wrexham is because I’ve played for Wrexham in games against Chester.

“But given what Chester have been through and where they’ve come from in the last two years, I’m sure some Wrexham fans would look at what they have done as a good thing because they’ve had their troubles too.

“At the end of the day this is my career, I’ve chosen Chester and hopefully it will work out for me.”

Blues boss Young is delighted with his latest addition.

Young, a long-term admirer of Williams said: “He’s very hardworking, which is always the criteria for us, but he’s also very clever. He links the play well and he knows where the net is once he gets in.

“He ticks all the boxes and if he comes in and does well in the short term and helps us get promoted, we may look for something longer. We’ll be using his experience and his quality to help get us out of this league.”
