Steve Burr believes his revitalised side has nothing to fear against big-spending Forest Green Rovers on Saturday (3pm).

Under the ownership of new age traveller turned energy tycoon Dale Vince,  the Gloucestershire club have splashed the cash in an attempt to secure promotion to the Football League.

But his investment has so far failed to yield results with inconsistent Rovers currently sitting eight points outside the play-off places.

"It's a surprise to see where Forest Green are with the resources they have got," said Burr, who had talks with Rovers after David Hockaday was sacked as manager in October.

"I suppose it shows that it's not about the money but if you ask any manager in this division if they wanted their budget then they would take it.

"But you've got to use it in the right way and I think maybe the problem is that they have had too many players and when players aren't playing it can cause a little bit of unrest and lead to an unhappy camp."

Rovers have a strike-force that would turn most managers green with envy and have added veteran Lee Hughes and Jason Walker to that front-line in past weeks.

Forest Green have already beaten the Blues once this season, winning 2-1 at the Swansway Chester Stadium on August 26, and go into tomorrow's game as favourites.

"We know how tough the task is but it's no tougher than the Barnet game or the Woking game," said Burr, who has taken maximum points from his two games in charge.

"Our lads are going to be well up for it with the two wins we have had we will go there and we will go there without any fear.

"We have had a look at Forest Green and I saw them a couple of weeks ago so I know there are areas there that we can hopefully try and exploit."

Burr has no fresh injury concerns, although midfielder Jason Jarrett missed on training on Thursday through sickness but he is expected to play.

He has been thrilled with the attitude of his squad since taking charge and reserved special praise for John Rooney, who starred in the 1-0 win at Woking despite his partner being in slow labour. She has now given birth to a little girl and Rooney will play on Saturday.

"He travelled down with us on Tuesday and we switched his phone off in case there was any news and he had to rush off," joked Burr.

"It's always an exciting time when a new addition arrives in the family and John is chuffed to bits. He has been a breath of fresh air for me with his performances.

"All of the lads have to be fair. It's difficult when a new guy comes in but I just want them to go out there and express themselves and work hard and they are certainly doing that."

New signing Andy Bond will be included in the squad and Burr hopes to make further additions next week.

An experience centre forward who has played in the top flight trained with the Blues on Thursday night and the manager is keen to take another look.

"I think he would be a really good addition to us but obviously the lad wants to come in and be right," said Burr.

"He would bring a lot of quality to us, he's dead keen but he obviously wants to be right."

Teenage striker Sean Miller is joining Evo-Stik League Premier Division leaders Skelmersdale United on loan while fellow youth team graduate Liam Blake has signed his first senior contract with the club.

Burr said: "We are trying to juggle one or two things around and maybe releasing a bit of money with lads going out.

"Young Sean Miller is going to go out on loan to Skem and get a few games there so we can watch him and he's better playing games.

"I don't know a lot about Liam but there have been really good reports on him in the youth team. He trained with us on Thursday night and like the others he didn't look out of place with the first team lads."

Burr has been understandably delighted with the start to his managerial reign but maintains he will take things game by game as he looks to guide the Blues away from danger.

He said: "I don't look further than Forest Green and there is no points target. All I want is enough points to keep us up.

"I would be going round in circles if I started to look at where we can win, where we can't win and where we can pick up points.

"I have never done that in the past and I won't start now."
