SEVEN new signings were snapped up by Chester FC boss Neil Young over the weekend.

The Blues manager, who has been in the job just over a week, began his summer shopping spree by capturing five players on Friday evening.

They are former Northwich Victoria, Morecambe and Stockport County defender Danny Meadowcroft, striker Rob Hopley, who has been signed from Young’s former club Colwyn Bay, goalkeeper Richard Whiteside from Burscough, midfielder Daniel Mahoney from Bamber Bridge and another midfielder, Richard Foulkes, from Cammell Laird.

Two other new faces followed – former Colwyn Bay, Rhyl and TNS man Greg Stones and Mark Connolly, an attacking midfielder who has played for TNS, Bangor City and Rhyl.

Connolly scored 23 goals in 35 appearances for the Lilywhites last season.

Young is putting together a squad from scratch for the reformed Blues, who still do not know what league they will be playing in next season.

Chester’s appeal against the decision to place them in the Vodkat League was due to be heard by the FA Leagues Committee at Wembley tomorrow. But that meeting has been postponed and will now take place in week commencing June 14.
