NEIL Young was fulsome in his praise for Danny Williams after he enjoyed a dream debut in Tuesday’s 3-0 derby victory at Vauxhall Motors.

The left-winger, who has arrived on a season-long loan from Kendal Town, scored the all-important second goal before he set up Sean Clancy to end any hope 10-man Motors had of making an unlikely comeback.

Chester FC boss Young has been a long-term admirer of Williams and talked up his talents after the 2-1 win over Histon on Saturday.

A minor ankle injury prevented Williams from making his debut in that match.

But he was fully fit and firing against Vauxhall, much to his new manager’s delight.

Young said: “Danny had an excellent game and he was involved in all the things we did well.

“He gave us something we’ve been lacking – and that’s pace. He’s also intelligent, too, he put some lovely balls to the back stick and I think he’s going to offer a lot.

“He was a bit bruised and battered at the end but he enjoyed it. This is the highest level he’s ever played but he is going to improve.”

Williams has not been signed as a direct replacement for fans’ favourite Iain Howard or the ever improving Clancy, who is operating at left-back while Matty McGinn is sidelined with a leg injury.

But his arrival has coincided with Robbie Booth being allowed to leave on loan.

The 26-year-old is on the verge of joining neighbours Motors in a bid to give him the match fitness he desperately needs.

Two other members of Young’s title-winning squads of the past two seasons look set to leave the club permanently.

Michael Powell has been transfer listed and Young expects clubs to firm up interest in the midfielder once he serves the final game of his three-match suspension.

Centre-back Taylor continues to attract interest from AFC Fylde having previously spent a loan spell with Dave Challinor’s side.

The win over Vauxhall, who lost Conor Roberts-Nurse to a harsh sending off, moved the Blues back to the top of the table.

Young said: “I don’t think we’re firing on all cylinders yet but the true Chester come to town when they’re under the cosh and there’s something at stake.

“At the moment we’re getting the job done and that’s 11 wins out of 13 now. To come into a new league and get 11 wins so soon is great however you get them.

“It was case of just getting another three points on the board. We played some good stuff at times but basically the sending off killed the game off.”
