NEIL Young was left to bemoan the errors which cost his side the chance of turning up the pressure in the title race.

Uncharacteristically poor defending and wasteful finishing meant second-placed Chester failed to make the most of table-topping Northwich Victoria’s slip yesterday – much to their manager's frustration.

Young, speaking after the 2-2 draw at home to struggling Frickley Athletic, said: “We’ve defended solidly for weeks but today we haven’t done that. We were sloppy and open at times.

"That happens when you concede a goal, but we equalised pretty quickly and we were in the ascendency only to go and concede another silly goal.

“If we hadn’t have conceded that goal we would have gone on to win the game. Even then we should have won, but when you’re under pressure you’ve got to stick to your principles as when the chances come you’ll be more confident – and not snatch at them like we did at the end.”

The Blues, who are now unbeaten in 12 matches, head to sixth-placed Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Young will welcome Michael Powell back from suspension while he hopes the knee injury Alex Brown sustained in yesterday's game will not prevent him from making the tricky trip to the Horsfall Stadium.

Matty McNeil (back) and Chris Simm (wrist) are not fully fit but both came off the bench against Frickley.
