NEIL Young has branded the decision to stage Chester FC’s Cheshire Senior Cup clash at Cheadle Town next Wednesday (November 7) as ‘ludicrous’.
The Blues boss is furious that the first-round trip to the North West Counties League outfit comes less than 72 hours before the FA Trophy encounter with Worksop Town at the Exacta Stadium.
Young said: “We offered three dates but we got knocked back on all of them and now we’ve been given the Wednesday before the Worksop game.
“I think it’s ridiculous. We’re asked to take the competition seriously – which we do – but there’s £4,000 at stake in prize money against Worksop. To a fan-owned club that’s a lot of money. But more importantly there’s a place in the next round of the FA Trophy to be had. To do that we’ve got to have our best players available.
“We’ll have a tough game on our hands against Worksop so to be travelling to Cheadle on the Wednesday is ludicrous.”
Chester had been due to face Harrogate Town on Saturday but the match has been postponed because Harrogate won their FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay against Hyde last night.
Harrogate will now travel to Torquay United in the first round proper on Saturday.
The FA Trophy third qualifying round tie against Worksop takes place on Saturday, November 10 (3pm).
