MICHAEL Owen was quick to offer his congratulations after Chester FC moved within touching distance of the Evo-Stik League title.

The Chester-born Manchester United striker, 32, took to Twitter straight after the Blues won at Kendal Town on Tuesday to maintain their 11-point lead at the top with five games to play.

Owen, whose dad Terry made more than 200 appearances for Chester in the 1970s, said: “Another win tonight for the mighty Seals.

“Promotion could be done and dusted within the next game or two. Oh Chester we love you.”

The win at Kendal was Chester’s eighth on the run.

Their relentless form has led to Neil Young being named the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s Premier Division manager of the month for March.

Young, whose side have won 15 and drawn three of their last 19 matches, said: “I’m very happy to have won the award but it is the players who have won it for me.

“I put my faith in the players but once they go over the line it is up to them to do the business.”
