Oour performance against Gateshead was not good enough and we know we need to improve.

I don’t believe we deserved to lose the game, but we didn't deserve to win either and we need to offer more of an attacking threat otherwise we will increasingly put more pressure in our defence.

As a football manager I am well aware of the expectations of supporters and I am also well aware that we are not where we need to be at the moment.

We want to stay in this league and we are working our socks off as a management team to try and make that happen. We have worked too hard over these last three years not to.

Our job is to try and get the best out of the players that we have and to bring in the best possible players we can.

But recruitment is very difficult and the constraints are not just financial.

I think it is important that people understand that the pool of players we are working in and are able to bring to the club  is very small.

People regularly ask me about last years team and the Conference North but the fact is that apart from Antoni Sarcevic and Danny Williams that the majority of last year’s team are playing in the Conference North although in some cases family and work commitments dictated that.

That tells you how big the jump is and the analogy I give is the Championship to the Premiership. It is a massive step.

I know people talk about Halifax but the reality is they kept hold of their best players.

We lost probably our two most dynamic players in Antoni and Danny, and had a very small window to try and replace them.

If you look at Southport and Telford over the years, two clubs in and around where we are probably at financially, then they both have had the same tough issues to deal with as us when trying to improve their squads.

We have got to make sure we ride the storm and stick together.

People have asked me in the press this week about maybe spending extra money to try and stay in the league  but that’s not going to happen because sustainability is an absolute must.

We know where we are in the budget and no way will we go over the budget.

We will keep trying and trying, and I won’t hide the fact that people are going to have to leave the football club to make room for new signings.

But the reality is the player pool we are working in is very small and it takes time to get the right kind of people in.

These are the facts, people might not want to look at them but they are there for all to see.

Our remit is to keep this team in the division and all our efforts are focused on that.
