Blues legend Grenville Millington has been confirmed as the new chairman of Chester FC and City Fans United (CFU), the supporters organisation that owns the club.

Tony Durkin, who had served as chairman since December 2012, indicated he wished to stand down from the role at a board meeting on Thursday night but will remain on the board.

CFU members elected Millington to the board last month and he was unanimous choice to replace Durkin, who played an important role in helping the fan-owned club return to a stable financial position.

Millington has had a long association with the Blues with the one-time goalkeeper being an honorary life vice president and the first hall of the fame inductee.

He made his first team debut in 1969 but was then released and moved to Rhyl before returning to Sealand Road in 1973.

Millington went on to make more than 300 appearances for the club, helping them reach the Football League Cup semi-finals in 1974-75.

He left the club in 1983 but continued to have an association with the club and worked as a goalkeeper coach.

Millington, who now works for the probation service, gave a memorable speech when hundreds of supporters packed into the Guildhall for the unveiling of the new club crest in May 2010.
