Chester FC manager Jon McCarthy has wished Ross Hannah well after the striker moved to Barrow AFC.

Hannah signed a two-year contract with the Cumbrian outfit on Monday having decided to turn down a new deal from the Blues.

McCarthy told The Chronicle the club had offered the 30-year-old the best terms possible and respected Hannah's decision to continue his career elsewhere.

"Ross has done everything right and we've done everything right as a club and we've got a great relationship," said McCarthy, who confirmed he was hoping to be in a position to announce some re-signings this week.

"We respect his decision because he's been brilliant for us. We genuinely wish him the best for the future and I hope and I'm sure he'll get a good reception from our fans in the future."

Hannah signed a 12-month deal last summer when he arrived from Grimsby Town and netted 26 goals during the 2015-16 campaign, scooping a hat-trick of trophies at the club's annual awards including player of the season.

That made him a target for a host of clubs and The Chronicle understands the decision to leave Chester was not one Hannah took lightly given how settled he was at the club and his relationship with the fans, but with a young family to support the offer of a two-year full-time contract proved too good to turn down.

Barrow boss Paul Cox told the North West Evening Mail he was delighted to add someone of Hannah's experience and quality to his squad.

"If you look at Ross, he's all about goals," said Cox. "If you look at his record, that's what it states.

“But, having met the lad and spoken to the lad on numerous occasions when he has been with various clubs, he is much more than that.

"I think he will be brilliant in the dressing room for the lads. He's got a wealth of experience at this level and I think he will be a little bit more than an out-and-out goal-scorer."
