Although the 2013/14 season is beginning to draw to a close, the work continues for the volunteer coaches and administrators involved in the Blues burgeoning academy.

In a little more than three years the fan-owned club's junior ranks have grown impressively and now runs programmes from under 8s through to under 18s.

Each week, the coaches, administrators and supporting volunteers give up countess hours for training and matches to help develop players, the vast majority of whom live in and around Chester.

Tom Peers, Liam Blake and Tom Batten have all featured for the first team this season, demonstrating the importance of having a successful production line.

An open day at the Swansway Chester Stadium earlier this month provided supporters with a chance to take a closer look at the talent coming through and learn more about the academy set up.

Bernard Concannon, head of youth development, said the open day had illustrated the continued progress of the academy.

He said: "Throughout the season, our 10 individual age groups are spread throughout the north west and North Wales playing home and away fixtures against many academy's and elite youth and junior football teams.

"The recent academy open day at the Swansway Chester Stadium provided an excellent opportunity for all academy managers, coaches, medical staff, volunteers, players and parents to experience a match day on the Chester FC first team pitch.

"The level of support from all 36 volunteer staff within the academy coupled with the 180 plus registered players, hundreds of parents and many Chester FC fans who attended showed how important the community football club ethos is to the city of Chester and surrounding areas.

"On behalf of the academy, I would like to say a massive thank you to all who supported what was a very successful day and display of quality football from all of our academy age groups."
