FC United of Manchester have signed George Thomson from Chester FC for an undisclosed fee.

The attacking midfielder has completed a permanent move to Broadhurst Park having scored five goals in an eight-game loan spell with the National League North club.

Thomson, 23, moved to Chester in January 2015 from Kings Lynn Town where he scored 37 goals in 111 games. He had been close to signing in summer 2014 after impressing while on trial.

Although he missed a chunk of the back end of last season with an ankle problem, Thomson scored twice including the winner in a 1-0 success at Torquay United.

He penned a new 12-month contract in May and it was hoped he would build on the promise shown this term but he has been unable to hold down a regular place in Steve Burr's side.

Thomson featured in nine of the opening 12 games but his last appearance came in the 2-1 win at Southport on October 13 when he was replaced with half an hour to go.

He moved to FC United in November on an initial one-month loan and has been a huge hit for Karl Marginson's men.

Thomson netted three times in five games in his first month and the deal was extended for a second month.

He will be available for selection for this afternoon's game with Brackley Town.

Thomson departs Chester having made 21 appearances and scored three goals for the Blues.
