GEORGE Horan and Michael Wilde were the big winners at the inaugural Chester FC Awards Evening at Chester Racecourse on Saturday.

Captain and defensive linchpin Horan won the Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards after leading the Blues to the title, with the latter prize being voted for by Neil Young and his management team.

Talisman Wilde also went home happy. The 37-goal striker collected the Golden Boot and saw off strong competition to win the Goal of the Season for his brilliant diving header at home to Woodley Sports in March.

The most emotional moment of the evening came when late Chester director Richard Wightman was posthumously made Clubman of the Year, an award voted by the Blues board and collected by his mother Lesley.

Around 450 people packed into the Pavillion Suite and took part in an auction which raised more than £4,000 for the club’s youth set-up.

The evening was hosted by Match of the Day 2 presenter Colin Murray and planned by Chester general manager Pat Cluskey.

Blues boss Young said: “I thought the organisation of the event was out of this world. You’d struggle to get that sort of evening in the Football League – it was a Premier League bash.”

The awards evening was sponsored by Oswestry Printers, who have pledged their support for the next five years.

The City Fans United Promotion Party takes place on Friday, May 20 at Chester Racecourse. Tickets, priced £10, are on sale at the Exacta Stadium.

City Fans United hold a members meeting at the Exacta Stadium Blues Bar on Tuesday (7pm start).
