Chester FC have announced a pre-tax profit of £33,000 for the financial year 2013-14.

Chairman Tony Durkin said he was 'delighted' at the turnaround after the fan-owned club made a five-figure loss 12 months ago.

Durkin took over as chairman in December 2012 when the board discovered the club was losing money.

He appointed Laurence Kirby as financial controller and has introduced tighter financial management over the past 12 months.

Durkin confirmed the sale of star midfielder Antoni Sarcevic to Fleetwood Town for a substantial fee, which was boosted when the Cod Army won promotion to League One, had contributed to the turnaround.

"We are delighted to report a pre-tax profit of £33,000 for the year ended 31 May 2014," said Durkin.

"The board of directors considers the return to profitability to be a very satisfactory result.

"The player transfer funds received have provided the opportunity to repair the damage resulting from the previous year loss and to consolidate on the foundations laid in the earlier two seasons.

"The balance sheet is now stronger and cash flows have improved and are now healthy."

Changes to the off-field structure over the past few months have seen a new three-man operational board, consisting of Durkin, Kirby and Steve Harvey, created to work alongside the City Fans United board.

A full set of financial statements will be circulated to all members ahead of the annual general meeting on September 11.
