NEIL Young will this weekend put the finishing touches to his retained list.

The Chester FC manager has in mind which players from his championship-winning squad will be offered new contracts and which players will be allowed to leave.

But he will only come to a final decision after an Exacta Stadium summit with his management team on Saturday morning.

Young does not wish to make his decision public until after the club’s presentation evening at Chester Racecourse a week on Saturday.

His stance, however, may change.

Young said: “The lads are looking at their own futures but in an ideal world I would let everybody enjoy what they have achieved this season – and that all ends with the presentation evening.

“Every single one of them has the right to celebrate but if lads want to know I’ve got a right to tell them before then.”

Young will also use Saturday’s meeting to discuss possible transfer targets.

The treble title-winning boss has already put his summer recruitment drive into motion and The Chronicle understands he is very close to sealing a deal for one of the names on his shortlist.

Young, who plans to strengthen in most areas, is also looking to ease the financial burden on the club when it comes to travelling costs.

The Blues will need to make a number of overnight stays in the Conference Premier next season.

They will travel to the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Dartford and possibly Dover Athletic, who take on Salisbury City in Sunday’s Conference South play-off final.

The Conference North play-off final, between FC Halifax Town and Brackley Town, takes place on the same afternoon.

Young said: “I’m trying to set up deals with hotel companies to try and reduce the costs.”

Young was yesterday named as a 200-1 outsider with Sky Bet for the Manchester United manager’s job after Sir Alex Ferguson’s shock retirement.

Young, who has led Chester to a hat-trick of leagues successes, said: “I can’t see it being real!

“It’s good people know who you are and it’s good for the profile.

“But I don’t think I’ll be going to Manchester United any time soon – unless it’s to empty the bins!”
