CHRIS Pilsbury will definitely not be continuing as chairman of Chester FC.

Pilsbury, who has held the position since the reformed club rose from the ashes of Chester City in 2010, was re-elected on to the Blues board at last night’s AGM.

But he will make it clear to his fellow board members that he does not want to be considered for another term as chairman when the new-look board meets later this month to vote on who will carry out the role.

Pilsbury believes Steve Ashton, the club’s former chief executive, should be Chester’s next chairman.

Ashton was elected on to the Chester board last night along with Tony Durkin and Mark Howell.

David Evans, like Pilsbury, was re-elected.

Pilsbury, a semi-retired teacher, told The Chronicle: “It has given me immense pleasure and pride to help develop the club in the past three years.

“We’ve gone from 10 of us meeting in a pub on Watergate Street to winning two titles and being top of the league we’re currently in.

“It has been an enormous honour to be the club’s chairman but I think, now we’re coming to the next stage in the club’s development, it’s time for someone else, although I will be staying on as a board member.

“I think we’ve got a good chairman in waiting and that’s Steve Ashton. I appointed him as CEO and he’s a great bloke and an excellent administrator.”

Current vice-chairman Mike Vickers, John Martin, Pete Newman and Steve Povey were the candidates to miss out on being elected to the the Blues board at last night’s AGM at the Exacta Stadium.
