IN-FORM striker Nathan Jarman believes one extra training session could make the difference in the Blue Square Bet Premier next season.

Table-topping Chester FC are red-hot favourites to win promotion to the non-league top-flight but they are not in the financial position to go full-time should they go up.

Neil Young and the club’s board are, however, exploring the possibility of bringing the players into train three times a week rather than twice a week. That would meet Jarman’s approval.

The 13-goal frontman had a three-day training schedule with Alfreton Town last season and he reckons it helped the promoted part-timers finish 15th In the Blue Square Bet Premier..

Jarman, who has scored three goals in his last three games, said: “I think there is a big difference from the Conference North to the Conference. It’s a national league and in terms of standard it’s like another stage of League Two.

“I’ve seen the gaffer saying that Chester are going to stay part-time but I think we’ll probably need that extra day’s training.

“I think the team we’ve got now would be competitive in the league above but it’s just that extra sharpness and extra fitness that you get from training full-time.

“At Alfreton, all the lads were in the gym after training to get as fit as we could. We’re going to have to do the same if we go up because in the league above, against full-time teams, you’re going to have to put a shift in.”

Scunthorpe-based Jarman was rested for Tuesday’s 6-0 Cheshire Senior Cup win over Stockport Sports.

Chester’s reward is a quarter-final tie away to rivals Tranmere Rovers. A date for the game is yet to be set.

Jarman is expected to go straight back into the side for Saturday’s visit of third-placed Brackley Town to the Exacta Stadium (3pm).
