CHESTER FC fans are being asked to help make sure this Saturday’s home match against Worcester City beats the big freeze.
With sub-zero temperatures forecast, protective pitch covers will be laid on the Exacta Stadium pitch this afternoon.
Any fans who are free at 1pm today can go along to the ground to assist with placing the heavy covers.
Volunteers are also required to help remove the covers at 10am on Saturday.
If the covers do their job and the game goes ahead, Blues boss Neil Young should have a fully-fit squad to select from.
Versatile defender/midfielder Matty McGinn is ready to return following a recent injury lay-off while Wes Baynes and Antoni Sarcevic will be back in the frame after serving one-match bans.
Prior to last night’s clash against Corby, Chester had won five and drawn one of their six home league games.
It is a near-perfect record but Young wants to see his table-topping team become even more ruthless in front of their own fans and score more goals.
He said: “It’s about killing teams off. When teams tend to drop in, we tend to be a bit slow and methodical and we struggle to up the tempo again.
“We’ve just got to be after teams right from the kick-off.”
Kick-off on Saturday is 3pm. Any fans helping with the laying down or the removal of pitch covers will be provided with refreshments.
