The Boxing Day match between Altrincham and Chester FC has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Officials carried out an inspection of the Moss Lane surface shortly after 9am on Saturday and confirmed it was not playable.

There has been sustained rainfall in the Altrincham area over the past few days and, although forecast to brighten up later on Saturday, the condition of the pitch and the prospect of some heavy showers through the morning meant there was no chance of the game going ahead.

Chester were looking to end a run of three straight defeats against the Robins and the game will be rearranged in the near future for a midweek date.

Next up for the Blues is a home game with Macclesfield Town on Monday before Altrincham visit the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium on January 2 (both 3pm).
