Talent spotter joins

THE man who discovered one of Chester’s great lost talents has been appointed as the club’s chief scout for its Centre of Excellence.

John Reardon brought Ched Evans to the Blues when he was a youngster and then recommended him to his present club, Manchester City, in 2002 after Chester’s youth system was reorganised.

Rhyl-born Evans is now a full Wales international and is regarded as one of the Premier League outfit’s hottest prospects.

Blues youth development manager Mark Newman said: “It’s great to have John here at City as the Centre of Excellence’s chief scout. He spotted young Ched and we are keeping our fingers crossed that he can bring more talent like that to the club.”

Premier trial for ace

A YOUNG Blue is on trial at the richest club in the world.

Connor Ready, a member of the Under 13s team at the club’s Centre of Excellence, is spending time with Manchester City.

Chester have close ties with their North West neighbours and earlier this year sold highly-rated teenage defender George Jones to Mark Hughes’ Premier League men.

Blues youth development manager Mark Newman said: “We do have a lot of interested watchers when the Centre of Excellence boys are playing. We have already seen George Jones move from Chester to City and Connor is on trial at the moment there so we will have to wait and see.

“A lot of hard work goes into the players from the coaches we have here and they must take a lot of credit for the way the Centre is moving.”
