BLUES official supporters group, City Fans United, has called a public meeting for tonight to unveil their plans to launch a phoenix club.

The current form of Chester City FC could be expelled from the Football Conference today, and CFU press officer Jeff Banks said: “This is the most important public meeting in the 125-year history of the football club.

“The meeting has been called to present our vision for the future of football in the historic city of Chester.

“We will also hear from Supporters Direct, while Christine Russell, MP for Chester, will be in attendance, as well as key figures from Cheshire West & Chester Council.”

Tonight’s meeting takes place at the Guildhall on Watergate Street, Chester, starting at 8pm.

CFU chair Chris Pilsbury added: “The question has been asked – does Chester need, want or deserve a football club? We believe that the answer to that question is a resounding ‘yes’.

“We firmly believe that Chester can and will have a club to be proud of – a club that local people will want to actively support and that can be a beacon for our city.

“But the hard work starts now as we must work together to build it almost from scratch.”
