DESPITE a late scare Chester City hung on to their five-point lead in the Conference with their sixth win in a row.
The visitors pegged a goal back in added time when City goalkeeper Ian Turner was fooled by a cruel bounce on a lob by Stewart Drummond,
But it was too late for Morecambe to grab a point which they wouldn't have deserved. They provided competitive opposition, but Chester were always the more dangerous side and Daryl Clare had two goals disallowed for offside.
It was Alex Smith who broke the deadlock 18 seconds into the second half when he finished off a move between Clare and Darryn Stamp and Clare doubled the lead with nine minutes left with a crisp finish following good work by Smith.
In between the goals Turner had to make a couple of good saves, one from former chester striker Ryan Sugden who should have done better than to head over from a good position in the first half.
