A PENALTY by Michael Branch in the fifth minute of added time gave Chester City a deserved draw against a robust Lincoln City at the Deva Stadium last night.
Lincoln proved a handful but City's never-say-die attitude garnered a well-earned point having gone two goals behind.
City had the best opening chance, when Marriott made a tremendous save, pushing Stewart Drum-mond's 18-yard effort past the post.
But the visitors led on 38 minutes as Molango's cross from the left found Nat Brown, who headed home from six yards. Worse was to come five minutes later when City conceded a free-kick again on the left. Mayo unleashed a swirling ball which caught the City defenders napping and Gary Birch hammered the ball home.
After the restart Chester manager Keith Curle brought on Walker and El Kholti for Curtis and McNiven. And the change brought success when on 50 minutes man of the match Ben Davies hammered home from close range after a nod down by Richardson from a Lowe cross.
The Lincoln defenders showed their annoyance and Marriott was lucky not to be sent off after pulling referee Russell Booth back. However the Nottingham official was charitable just brandishing yellow.
City laid siege to the visitors' goal,, as Regan and Richardson both went close. And with 95 minutes gone, Davies was hauled down in the area by Beevers and Mr Booth immediately pointed to the spot.
Branch then sent the visitors keeper the wrong way and Chester had deservedly kept their unbeaten start to the new campaign.
A delighted City manager Curle said: "I thought we deserved the point, we never stopped playing, and we never accept defeat at this club.
"Michael Branch showed great composure when he slotted in the penalty and it's that sort of experience that prompted me to make him club captain."
Furious Lincoln manager Keith Alexander, stormed: "The referee cost us the game. I have a problem with both goals."
