SALTNEY Ferry went some way to erasing the memory of missing out on the Chester & District Sunday League Concorde Trophies Section A title by powering to cup glory.

The Ferrymen bounced back with a 6-4 win over top-flight rivals Dee Miller Athletic in the Dale Recycling Solutions League Cup final at the Cheshire County Sports Club.

The Saltney side opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a Thomas Rowlands free-kick, but parity was restored five minutes later when Danny Andrews equalised.

Rowlands scored his second 10 minutes before the break and Chris Herbert extended the advantage.

Dee Miller thought they had reduced the deficit shortly after the restart, but their effort was ruled out and salt was rubbed into the wound when Herbert added his second.

Lee Butterworth got in on the act moments later and, although Andrews replied almost immediately, the game seemed over when Herbert completed his hat-trick with a 70th-minute penalty.

But Andrews – who has been playing against Chester FC this season in the Evo-Stik League for Cammell Laird – had other ideas and he scored two more times to set up a tense finale.

The sole Chester Chronicle Section B clash saw FC Bull & Stirrup (Danny Eaton 2) draw 2-2 at home to AFC Hilton (Saul Malpas, David Watts).

Upton AA finished the campaign as the top performing Chester team in the West Cheshire League Division One.

Christleton missed the chance to move above 11th-placed Upton on Saturday as they drew their last game 1-1 at Cammell Laird Reserves.

Man-of-the-match Steve Finlay equalised for the 12th-placed Swans before missing a penalty.

Fourth-placed Helsby (Aaron Newbolt) lost 3-1 at runners-up Maghull.

Rock-bottom Blacon Youth Club went down 3-0 at home to Marshalls and then 8-0 to the same side in Tuesday’s reverse fixture.

Chester Nomads (Dale Harris 2, Andy Fitzgibbon) wrapped up their Division Two season with a 3-0 win at Heswall Reserves on Saturday.

In Division Three, Upton Reserves (Andy Lloyd, Dave Carman, Simon Andrews, Tom Fellows, Robert Hanley) drew 5-5 at Capenhurst Villa Reserves (Mike Urmston 2, Alan Locke, Danny Duffy, OG), while Christleton Reserves (Danny McKevitt) lost 2-1 at Hale Reserves and Helsby Reserves 1-0 at home to Manor Athletic.
