THE table-toppers took on the basement boys in the Chester & District League Queensferry Sports Premier Division on Saturday – and the match went to form.

A 3-1 triumph saw new leaders Waggon and Horses roll over winless Tarvin Athletic. Scott Chard and James Henry were on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Second-placed Chester Nomads 2nds had a Joe Inlach brace to thank for their 2-1 home win over Parkgate.

In Drury Electrical Wholesalers Division Two, Halfway House Celtic ran out 4-2 winners at home to Boughton Athletic.

Manor Athletic moved into joint first position – top on goal difference from West Meters – with a 5-1 away success over basement team Saughall Thursday Reserves, whose second-half consolation came courtesy of James Graham.

The only match in Link Up Division Three saw Raby Villa close the gap on pacesetters Peacock. Goals by Ashley Williams (2) and Matty Gould gave Raby a 3-1 victory at Crossway Reserves.

Saturday’s busy cup programme was hit by the wet weather, with only a handful of ties taking place.

Duddon United beat the rain and continue to fly the flag for the Chester & District League in the Chester Senior Cup. A Sean Roberts hat-trick and a goal by Rob Lawton saw them reach round three with a 4-1 home success over Saughall Thursday.
