WAGGON & HORSES withstood a City Bar fightback to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the Queensferry Sports Premier Division on Saturday.

Simon Broadbent, Brad Mortimer and James Henry fired the visitors to a 3-2 success that stretched their winning run to seven matches. But they were pushed all the way by the City Bar boys, for whom Craig Pritchard and Elliot Slade were on target.

Defending champions Highfield Athletic (Matty Cross 2, Ross Broadbent, Chris Larson) moved into second with a 4-0 victory at AFC Bebington Athletic.

Kelsall (Adam Crimes, John Devenport, James Thompson, Dave Cooper) also won 4-0, at home to Parkgate.

Crossway (Steve Gore 2, Dave Megson, OG) edged a close encounter 4-3 at Tarvin Athletic 2000 (John Bridge, Ian Smith, Gary Handley).

Jon Roberts netted for Chester Nomads 3rds as they drew 2-2 at Netherton SC in the sole Olympic Trophies Division One game to beat the big freeze.

West Meters (Jack Williams, John Lawrence) lost their top-of-the-table Drury Electrical Wholesalers Division Two clash at Kelma 3-2.

Boughton Athletic won their basement battle at Saughall Thursday Reserves 3-2 in spite of strikes from James Graham – after just 45 seconds – and Scott Edwards. Frodsham Vets (Paul Hulme, Ian Savage, OG) were 3-1 winners at home to Hoole Rangers Reserves.

Vicars Cross Veterans remain without a win in Link Up Division Three but they went close against Uberlube before going down 3-2.

Tom Berry, Steve Dodd and Tom Vickers goals swung the verdict the home side’s way with Sam Arther and Adam Moutlon reducing the deficit.
