WAGGON & Horses caused the shock of the Chester & District FA Senior Cup quarter-finals on Saturday when they dumped out higher-league Blacon Youth Club.

Having endured a miserable season in West Cheshire League Division One, the Cairns Crescent outfit had targeted success in the city’s premium cup competition – but their hopes were dashed by their neighbours.

Waggon ran out 4-3 winners after extra-time with Warren Roberts and Mark Ford among the away side’s goalscorers. Damian Rowley’s hat-trick proved in vain for Blacon.

Waggon will be one of three Chester & District League clubs in the last four. The only remaining West Cheshire outfit is Chester Nomads after they won 1-0 at Christleton.

Last season’s runners-up play one division down from the Swans, but they edged a close contest thanks to an Ed Moss first-half penalty.

Highfield Athletic moved a step closer to the final – which will be played at the home of Chester FC – with a 3-1 home win over Uberlube.

Ross Broadbent (2) and Adam Langton got the goals for the Blacon boys.

Richard Smart struck in injury-time to earn Upton AA a 1-1 draw at Helsby in West Cheshire League Division One on Saturday.

The Green Machine were on course for three points after Matty Johnson fired them into an 85th-minute lead.

A Graeme Davidson hat-trick could not prevent struggling Capenhurst Villa from falling to a 4-3 home loss to Prescot Cables Reserves in Division Two.

Capenhurst Reserves were also beaten, 3-2 at Merseyside Police in Division Three despite strikes from Andy Crawford and Jack Shepherd.

Upton Reserves (Nathan Freeman 2, Mark Thomson, OG) won 4-0 at home to Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves as Helsby Reserves (Ian Cox) boosted their promotion prospects with a 1-0 victory at Marshalls Reserves.
