LODGE Bar caused the shock of Saturday’s Chester & District FA Unite the Union Challenge Cup first round ties as they beat higher-division Hoole Rangers 2-1.

Blacon Youth Club Reserves (Chris Varney 2, Aden Parker, Louis Feerick, Tom George) also sprung a surprise by winning 5-0 at home to Boughton Athletic.

Crossway (Phil Goss 3, Steve Gore 3, Richard Talbot 2, Mike Bona) cruised to a 9-1 success in their inter-club battle with Crossway Reserves (Andy Graham pen).

Chester Nomads Reserves (Daniel Farrell 2, Alan Bond, Joe Imlach) progressed with a 4-2 victory at home to Kelsall, as did their league rivals Upton AA Reserves (Patrick Walsh, Stuart Cossins), with a 2-0 triumph at home to Chester Nomads 3rds.

Chester Athletic (Paul Merrick, Lee Moores, Anthony Passingham, Tyler McAffery) won 4-0 at Chester Albion but Grosvenor Arms (Craig Anderson 2) lost 4-2 at home to Malpas Reserves.

Greyhound Inn (Craig Stewart, Chris Larson) needed extra-time to beat lower-division visitors Chester Celtic 2-0 but Deva Athletic (Declan Jarrett 2, Rich Forrester, Liam Welsh) had it easier, winning 4-1 at home to Duddon United.
