TARPORLEY Victoria returned to winning ways in Cheshire League Division Two on Saturday with a 2-0 victory at home to Daten.

After two defeats and a draw, the second-placed Flacca boys badly needed the three points to keep pace with table-topping Maine Road Reserves.

And, thanks to Al Moore and Andy Clacher, that is exactly what they got.

Both sides had chances in the first half, with Nick Abson making a goal-saving tackle and Chris Jones a fine save to deny the mid-table visitors, with Henry Buckley and Alex Rowntree going desperately close at the other end.

It was left up to man of the match Moore to break the deadlock in the 35th minute as he powerfully headed home a Dan Haralambous corner.

Daten had more than played their part in an evenly-contested affair, but the game was up once Clacher poked in to double the home team’s advantage shortly after the hour mark.

Tarporley, who could have easily scored more, are at home again on Saturday, against fourth-placed Moore United.

Basement boys Malpas, having seen their trip to Denton Town postponed last Saturday, are at Congleton Town Reserves (both 2.15pm).
